Articles like these put the consumer in the driver seat-very imptroant.
This is a preliminary review of my 42PX77U. I ordered this TV on Amamzon thru Vanns.com, and was very pleased with the entire transaction. It arrived on 7/30 so I’ve only had a few days to form this opinion, but I doubt it will go down. I did a lot of research on HDTVs and the majority of what I read pointed me towards plasmas and Panasonic (quality/price ratio). Cnet.com was a great tool along with other customer reviews from different sites, including amazon. The picture, to me, seems much more realistic than LCD. Once you adjust the picture settings off Vivid and create a more realistic view, you begin to be amazed at the clarity and realism. Some of the nice benefits to this model are the anti-reflective coating on the screen. I cannot control 100% of the light in my living room during the day and knew this feature would come in handy, and it has. It’s $100 more from the base model, but it’s worth it. The image is just as clear as the non-treated screen (42PX75U). The side speakers are great and produce clear audio. I also believe they help produce a wider range of sound coming from the TV. I do not have surround sound set up yet, but am quite pleased with the TV’s audio. Having picture setting memory for each video input is great. I can have my HD cable, DVD and Wii set to three different settings that help compliment each experience. Many folks comment on the poor standard definition viewing on their HDTVs, and I’ve witnessed it myself on some DLPs. But this TV can produce a nice, clear picture on non-HD channels. (A BIG plus given there are far more non-HD channels) My TV is setup using the provided stand, which was fairly easy to assemble. Total assembly time, 5 minutes. Lastly, I’ve been concerned with possible “burn-in” so I’ve scaled down the picture settings and only watch TV in “Just” mode to fill the entire screen. Panasonic recommends doing this for at least the first 100 hours during the TV’s break-in period. Honestly, even with the picture setting scaled down, the HD picture still looks great. I guess everything is relative. Bottom line, you cannot go wrong with this TV. You’ll have a hard time finding a better TV at this price ($1350). If you buy online, do your research and make sure your vendor is reputable and a valid reseller of the brand you’re planning to purchase. Local retailers will come close to the online price, but have a hard time keeping the TV in stock. That’s why I purchased mine online…quicker turnaround. Good luck!

, in perfect shape, but if i wasthe factory QC guy, i’d be putting moreprotection in front of the screen. oursused a 2 inch space for protection and thebox itself.2 – i’d try to put small recessed handlegrabs in the rear frame in a larger designelement like this. lifting it is a twoperson job per the manual but both peoplefound their grips slipping on the highlypolished (and good looking) set edges.our entire extended family seems to havesettled on the Samsung line. that’sabout 12 sets! really; we all love thisbrand, have many different styles andhave had great experiences with theperformance and reliability of the Samsungequipment. we did get an extended warrantyanyway on an investment like this one.i haven’t tried the connectivity to myhome network yet, but the menu seems welldesigned and very logical. my wife is becomingthe family set it up expert.i gave this 5 stars in the rating.very pleased.oh… i have a large surge suppressorUPS box on the infeed from the electricoutlet. we have them on ALL our electronicdevices, PC, etc. power in our area is veryprone to spikes and storm related events.i’d suggest this to anyone.

We have had the Hitachi for a little over a month. Our two other HDTVs are a 42″ Sony LCD rear-projection and a Panasonic 32″ LCD which we have owned (and loved!) for 14 months and a year respectively. For sports, it is a very close match between the three – I may prefer the Panasonic just a smidge but it is in a very small (and darker!) room. For broadcast TV we like all three but this one (the Hitachi) wins for reasons of flexibility and a far superior remote (imho). A lower model (the 69) was rated highly in, well, you know, but below the Pani but this model has a 16 bit processor (and picture was roughly equal with the reviewed 12 bit) and thus a superior picture and features. The case we found to be far superior for viewing purposes. We couldn’t find an angle, for example, to view the Pani where glare wasn’t obvious- on this one we have to TRY to find any glare. Our kicthen/dining area is directly behind us and has the brightest lights and 3 large windows. We don’t see much if any glare even on sunny days (we have the set tilted down about 10-degrees from vertical on a wall mount and that helps). But the real selling point is the adjustability of the picture/color and how this set performs on movies. I teach film classes at least a few times per year at our college and I watch a LOT of movies (tough job but . . .). The subtlety and superiority of the picture on dvd, up-converted dvd, or HD-DVD are all very obvious (two pair of 52 and 60 year old eyes agree with this assessment). HDTV is also superior though HDTV looks so good, relatively speaking, that it is harder to tell under our viewing conditions and with present conditions (DirectTV and off-sat reception). It also doesn’t seem to get nearly as hot as some reports and I’ve had no problem what-so-ever with “odd” greens as reported on a few blog sites. Having so much experience with LCDs before it did take our eyes a few days to adjust to the greater and more subtle detail of a plasma but it has been well worth the adjustment! (Our set is professionally adjusted but I found the same things to be true with my own educated guesses before adjustment!).

Hi – I’m a gamer too and not to be critical, but your first mistake is buying a Vizio. Yeah, I know they’re cheap. But there’s a reason why. I use to work in the trade industry up till last year and I have personally dealt with Vizio (from their American corporate offices in Irvine, Ca and around the City of Industry near Los Angeles). You gaming will look less than great because you’re playing it ona substandard television that is KNOWN to fail within 6 months (I went to Vizio’s return warehouse – all 3 of them – in City of Industry and saw 60 foot stacks of there televisions, all returned from Costco). Don’t buy a Vizio. Yes I truly understand they are less expensive, but go with a 1080P Samsung, LG, or Sony. You’re gaming experience will be superior. They all have “gaming” modes on there televisions to ensure smooth pixel translations from a PS3 or Xbox (not the Wii – the Wii is old school, so won’t make much of a difference). As for messing up the tv – unless you pass out one night from playing and leave it on the menu screen for hours on end, you may end up with screen burn. But no, playing games on an lcd or plasma shouldn’t mess it up.
